A senior envoy of former U.S. President Donald Trump said he plans to visit Greenland in March. The envoy made the comments in an interview reported by Reuters.
The planned visit comes as Washington continues to show interest in the Arctic region. However, the envoy did not provide further details on the purpose of the trip.
Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. Meanwhile, it has gained strategic importance due to its location and natural resources.
The envoy said the March visit would focus on engagement with local officials. In addition, the comments highlight ongoing U.S. attention toward Greenland.
Trump previously drew global attention by expressing interest in buying Greenland while in office. Despite this, Denmark rejected the idea at the time.
Reuters reported that the envoy did not outline any policy proposals linked to the visit. Therefore, the scope of discussions remains unclear.
The planned trip follows increased geopolitical focus on the Arctic. As a result, Greenland continues to attract interest from major global powers.
