Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) and retail investors have increased their stakes in nine midcap companies for the March quarter. This analysis covers around 50 BSE midcap companies that disclosed shareholding data. Despite the increased ownership, seven of these stocks have reported negative returns in CY26, with declines reaching as much as 27%.
For instance, one stock fell from Rs 499 to Rs 367, with FII holding rising to 17.26% in March from 16.35% in December. Another stock decreased from Rs 238 to Rs 183, with FII holding increasing to 21.86% from 21.15%. Other stocks also showed declines, with varying increases in FII and retail holdings.
Overall, while both FIIs and retail investors have raised their stakes, the performance of these midcap stocks has been disappointing in the current year.
