Micron Technology is preparing to announce a new memory chip manufacturing capacity investment in Singapore, Reuters reported on Monday.
The U.S. memory chip maker will make the announcement as soon as Tuesday, according to people familiar with the matter.
The planned investment will focus on NAND flash memory production, the sources said.
The move comes amid severe global memory chip shortages.
Demand for all types of memory chips has risen because of expanding AI infrastructure and consumer electronics needs.
Micron already runs large memory chip operations in Singapore.
The company also is building a $7 billion advanced packaging plant for high bandwidth memory in Singapore.
That facility is expected to begin production in 2027.
Competitors such as Samsung and SK Hynix are adding new production lines and accelerating plans to start output.
Analysts say the memory supply shortage could last into late 2027 despite new capacity plans.
