SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic poised for record IPO wave in U.S.

SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic may lead a record IPO wave in the U.S.

SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic are set to potentially drive the largest wave of initial public offerings in U.S. history, despite all three companies being unprofitable. This unprecedented situation features massive valuations alongside ongoing losses. SpaceX is reportedly targeting a valuation of about $1.75 trillion, while OpenAI seeks nearly $1 trillion, and Anthropic has reached approximately $380 billion.

SpaceX generated over $18.6 billion in revenue last year but recorded a loss of nearly $5 billion. OpenAI and Anthropic are also believed to be operating at a loss. The anticipated IPOs raise questions about investor tolerance for losses in exchange for growth potential. Profitability will be crucial for inclusion in major indices, as S&P Dow Jones Indices requires four consecutive profitable quarters for S&P 500 consideration.

While Nasdaq may expedite inclusion for large-cap newcomers, the S&P 500 remains the more influential benchmark. Delays in meeting profitability requirements could limit institutional demand post-listing. Investors face a central question: will they prioritize growth and innovation over profitability?
