Vedanta shares in focus after 10 workers killed in Chhattisgarh plant incident. Company responds

Shares of Vedanta Limited are expected to face pressure in Wednesday’s trading following a boiler accident at its Athena Power plant in Singhitarai, Chhattisgarh, which resulted in the deaths of 10 workers and injuries to 24 others. The company stated that its immediate focus is on providing medical assistance and support to the families of those affected. Vedanta is collaborating with medical teams and local authorities while offering full support to the injured.

Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal expressed his sorrow over the incident on the microblogging platform X, stating he was “deeply saddened by the tragic accident.” He emphasized that everyone affected is like family to him and assured that a thorough investigation is underway. The company has committed to leaving “no stone unturned” in the investigation process.

In a separate note, Vedanta reported a 61% year-on-year increase in consolidated profit to Rs 5,710 crore for the third quarter, with revenue rising 19% to Rs 45,899 crore. The aluminium business showed significant operational growth, with alumina production increasing 57% year-on-year.
